Digital Love

isthisit? issue 7 - Open Call

You are invited to submit to isthisit?'s seventh book, which will be available to view online and in physical books.

The overriding theme of the book will be digital love, exploring the world of relationships in the age of the internet and social networks. Considering both the positive and negative attributes to connecting via social media websites, questioning how the use of new technologies influences and distorts our dating habits and wondering whether the seductive nature of the screen is a replacement for physical intimacy.

The issue seeks to bring together a number of works and texts critiquing, commenting and reflecting upon love on the internet.

You're invited to submit any and all types of work that fit under this loose theme, from videos to physical sculptures, net art to paintings. We are also looking for essays that consider these ideas, from short fictional stories to academic analysis, ranging from 1000 – 5000 words.

In the future there will be a physical launch event and accompanying exhibition for the seventh issue of the book featuring artworks and artists included in the book.

To submit email us with 'isthisit? issue 7' in the subject line, including your name, artist statement, artist website, social media (Facebook and Instagram), art work name, description and dimensions as well as some images/video file/essay.

If you plan on submitting an essay and are yet to write it, feel free to submit a draft or proposal for consideration.

We're looking into funding for the seventh issue, hopefully enabling us to pay all artists and writers involved. Please check back soon for updates.

isthisit? is a platform for contemporary art, exhibiting over 700 artists since its creation in May 2016, founded by its current director, artist and curator Bob Bicknell-Knight. Online, it operates as a gallery producing monthly exhibitions showcasing emerging to mid-career artists, hosting a roster of guest curators experimenting with the medium of the internet to interrogate a variety of concepts. The website also hosts monthly residencies, where artists are given a web page to create new work that exists on the internet as a piece of net art. Offline, it has held exhibitions nationally and internationally and is the publisher of isthisit?, a book series released on a triannual basis.
