Jamie Sorensen is an artist and founder of Spare Room Residency, an artist led residency programme at his home in Liverpool, which supports artists by providing free accommodation and studio space for short-term projects. Within his own work Sorensen examines issues of materiality, symbolism and aspiration within hyper-capitalist society, combining these themes with a long-term investigation into the ecological effects of human activities and the more recently defined ‘Anthropocene’. Using collage as both content and form, Sorensen’s sculptures, videos and digital images borrow from a wide range of sources including commercial stock footage, mass produced plastic toys and raw building materials.
